Common Microwave Problems

Common Microwave Problems We Repair

A malfunctioning microwave can interrupt your daily routine and, in some situations, create a potential safety concern. Our technicians diagnose many common microwave problems, including:

  • Microwave runs but doesn’t heat

  • Microwave won’t turn on

  • Microwave stops during use

  • Microwave is heating slowly

  • Turntable isn’t rotating

  • Microwave door won’t close

  • Door won’t latch properly

  • Control panel isn’t responding

  • Display is blank or flickering

  • Exhaust fan isn’t working

  • Interior light isn’t working

  • Microwave is making unusual noises

  • Error codes are appearing

  • Microwave is sparking or arcing

  • Burning smell during operation

  • Breaker trips when the microwave is used

***Microwave Safety Warning***

Stop using the microwave if it sparks, smokes, produces a burning smell, operates with the door open, or has visible damage to the door or latch.

Do not remove the microwave’s outer cabinet. Internal high-voltage components can retain a dangerous electrical charge even after the appliance has been unplugged.

Types of Microwaves We Service

Better Homes Appliance Repair services several types of residential microwaves, including:

  • Over-the-range microwaves

  • Built-in microwaves

  • Microwave drawers

  • Wall-mounted microwaves

  • Combination microwave and wall-oven units

  • Select countertop microwaves

Countertop microwaves are often less expensive to replace than repair. Call 727-447-0108 with the brand and model number so our office can help determine whether service is available and whether repair is likely to be practical.

Service availability depends on the microwave type, model, age, installation, technician capability, and availability of replacement parts.

After diagnosing the problem, our technician will explain the recommended repair and provide upfront pricing before beginning any approved work.

Common microwave repairs may include:

  • Door-switch replacement

  • Door-latch or interlock repair

  • Turntable motor replacement

  • Turntable coupler or roller-ring replacement

  • Control-board diagnosis and replacement

  • Touchpad or user-interface replacement

  • Interior light replacement

  • Exhaust-fan motor replacement

  • Thermal fuse replacement

  • Wiring and electrical diagnosis

  • Sensor diagnosis and replacement

  • Magnetron diagnosis and replacement

  • High-voltage diode diagnosis

  • Capacitor diagnosis

  • Inverter-board diagnosis

  • Error-code diagnosis

Some microwave repairs involve high-voltage components and should only be performed by a qualified appliance technician.

Our technicians carry many commonly used parts. Some repairs may require a return appointment when a model-specific part must be ordered.

Is Your Microwave Worth Repairing?

Whether a microwave is worth repairing depends on its age, type, original cost, condition, required part, and the availability of replacement components.

Repair may make sense when:

  • The microwave is built into cabinetry

  • It is part of a combination wall-oven unit

  • It is an over-the-range model that fits the existing space

  • The appliance is otherwise in good condition

  • The required repair is reasonably priced

  • A comparable replacement would require installation or cabinetry changes

Replacement may be more practical when:

  • It is an inexpensive countertop microwave

  • The appliance has significant interior or door damage

  • Essential replacement parts are no longer available

  • The repair cost is high compared with replacement

  • The microwave has several unrelated problems

Our technician will diagnose the problem, explain the available options, and provide an honest recommendation based on the condition and value of the appliance.
