You MUST clean your washing machine - Here is how!

There are a few quick and easy things that you can do to your washing machine to keep it clean and well-maintained. The main thing that you can do for your washing machine is to keep it clean by getting rid of all the grime that builds up in the tub. The easiest way to do it is to start by making sure there is nothing in your washing machine and fill the detergent drawer with your normal washing machine detergent. You will also want to add a couple of tablespoons of your detergent inside the washing machine. Now set your washing machine on the hottest cycle that you can run it on and then just let it run through the whole cycle. As soon as it is done with the cycle, open the washing machine door and let it air dry. If the exterior of the washing machine needs to be clean just use a regular spray cleaning product like 409 and give it a good wipe down.

There are those of us that like a more natural and organic method when we use cleaning products so this one is for you. For cleaning the inside of a top loading washing machine, add 250 mL of white vinegar and run it on the hottest cycle. When the cycle is over just open the door and add half a cup of baking soda and run another hot cycle. As soon as that cycle is complete go ahead and open the door to air dry. For cleaning the inside of a front loading washing machine, add 2 cups of white vinegar inside the washing machine and run on the hot cycle. After that cycle ends, add half a cup of baking soda into the detergent cup drawer and turn it back on for another hot cycle. After the cycle ends open the door and wipe everything down with a clean cloth to dry.

I know some of us prefer to clean everything with bleach so we make sure that all those pesky bacteria and odors are completely eliminated. For those of you who are not scared of bleach and want to completely eliminate bacteria and odor, give this one a try. Start by making sure your washing machine is completely empty, pour half a cup of bleach inside the washing machine, and then run it on the hottest washing cycle. This is where you need to pay attention. When the washing machine is full of water, go ahead and pause the cycle and leave the bleach water soaking for an hour. After an hour, go ahead and let it run, completing the cycle. After the cycle is over, simply open the door, wipe everything down, and let it dry out completely. Just remember, when using bleach, in case there may be any residue left over, do a load of light-colored clothes or whites on your next load after cleaning with bleach.

You don’t need to perform these cleaning cycles very often if you use these few tips to keep your washing machine clean every time you use it. Try to leave the detergent drawer open between using it and don’t use too much detergent because the excess may stay built up in the machine and cause problems. Leave the washing machine door open between uses to let it dry out completely to avoid mold and mildew problems. Also, clean the door gaskets and seals regularly by wiping them down and you can also clean out the washing machine filter because that can get clogged and cause draining problems.

You should not have to deep clean your washing machine more than once a month unless it is being heavily used daily. The important thing is to make sure that it is left open to air dry after each use and make sure the gaskets and seals are wiped down with every load.
