Helping You Through Your Appliance Repair

Every once in a while, we have a customer calling for advice on how to fix an appliance on their own. Wherever they live in Clearwater, Palm Harbor, Dunedin, or even Tampa, we try to help as much as we can over the phone. The majority of the time we would need to send a technician out to physically see what the problem is and run different diagnostics but the other day we had a repeat customer call the office because they had a problem with their top-loading washing machine. Their whirlpool washer filled up with water, but then it stopped and would not agitate. We asked the customer to try a few things on their own before we got a technician involved. We asked them to check their circuit breaker to make sure that it did not trip and then we asked them to check their outlet and the plug from the washing machine. We just wanted to make sure it was not a power supply issue first. The next thing we asked them to try is to reset the washing machine motor because sometimes if the washing machine receives a sudden influx in power or even a disruption in power and this may send an error code to the motor, requiring the motor to then be reset. An easy way to check this is to unplug the washing machine for about one minute and then plug it back in. After plugging the washing machine back in, lift and lower the lid on the washer multiple times within a 10-second period. Wait about 30 seconds and this process should have reset the motor. Many newer washing machines will not agitate with the lid up, so make sure that the lid is completely closed for the agitator to work. If these simple tests did not get the agitator working in the washing machine, we would send a technician out to see if it is a broken lid switch, or magnet, or even a timer. Luckily, in this particular case, the customer's breaker had simply tripped, and all she had to do with reset it, and her appliance was once again working. Some fixes are quite simple and easy enough for a customer to do on their own so we are happy to help out over the phone, if at all possible, because these issues are not really things that need the knowledge of an appliance repair technician, and avoids the aggravation of an appliance being down when you can quickly fix it yourself. Hopefully, this helps anyone else reading our blogs that happen to run into this issue.
